    July 24, 2015 – Anthem, Inc. (NYSE: ANTM) and Cigna Corporation (NYSE: CI) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement whereby Anthem will acquire all outstanding shares of Cigna.

    The deal combines the second and fifth largest health insurers by revenue with over 53 million insured.

    For those who typically earn between $9.45 and $15 an hour, major medical plans take a $2,300 bite out of an annual salary that, for many, is almost $24,000. By contrast, a fixed indemnity plan could have premiums of about $1,200 a year.
